Have you ever wanted to change the size of temporary dimensions in Revit? Maybe they just look too small. There isn't a setting within Revit that can control this, but there is a change you can make outside of Revit that can change the size of these dimensions.
First, close Revit. Navigate using Windows Explorer to the Revit program folder in the installation directory for your product. For Revit Architecture that would be C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2009\Program. Find the Revit.ini file located in this directory and open it in Notepad.
Locate the [Graphics] section of the file and add just the second line below or at the very end of the file add all of the following:
[Graphics]
TempDimFontSizeInPoints = X
Where X represents the size the text. The default value for the size of temporary dimensions in Revit is 8, so try and experiment with different values to see what looks right for you.
Thanks to Ryan Duell, Autodesk Product Support, for helping with this post!
Very handy tip.
I do however find that if I have dimensioned something already and select the object, that the temporary dimensions often get in the way of the dimension I have set. Is there any way of changing the font size of an existing dimension when one of the referenced objects is selected? This way the set dimension could be bigger than the temporary dimension, and easier to select.
Cheers,
Tim
