Quick tip should you receive the Could not find referring object error message when attempting to right-click > Find Referring Views. I have included the 2 most common causes of this behavior below:
1. Viewport Selected
You will receive this message in a sheet if you hover over the viewport itself > right-click > Find Referring Views. Instead, first right-click over the viewport > Activate View. Once the view is activated in the sheet right-click > Find Referring Views, which should return the Go To View dialog. If not, take a look at #2…
2. All Tag Instances are Hidden
For an element such as an elevation tag, if every instance of the tag is hidden in every view it appears, you will receive the same message. You can test this by opening a view the tag should appear on. Toggle Reveal Hidden Elements, and see if you can locate one instance of the tag.
If you see the tag you don’t even have to unhide it yet; as long as Reveal Hidden Elements is active Find Referring Views can locate the view. This will help you identify if all instances of the tag have been hidden.
If you right-click in the activated sheet elevation view > Find Referring Views, and it now returns the 1 view name you revealed hidden elements in, you know this was the cause.
