Revit 2012 introduces new Worksharing Display Modes to visually distinguish workshared project elements.
Once you enable worksharing, you can modify the Worksharing Display Settings…
All worksets in the project and all users that have been in the project should appear in the Owners \ Worksets tab.
You can populate the list [for standard worksets you know you will utilize], or the users [if they always want to use the same color] in the project.
For Owners:
You can easily add usernames to the project by opening the central file > Options > entering a new username > OK > Synchronize project. You can repeat this action to populate a project with predefined Owners and assign a color.
For Worksets:
Simply create the desired worksets through the standard Worksets dialog. These will automatically appear in the Worksharing Display Settings > Worksets list.
Transfer Project Standards
If you populate a project with the desired worksets, usernames, and colors you can automatically transfer most of this data over to another project. Under Manage > Transfer Project Standards, there is a new option for Worksharing Display Settings.
Keep in mind this will not transfer over workset names from one project to another.
It will however transfer over workset colors, should the same name workset appear in both projects.
Each category has a Show Color column with a checkbox; these are project specific and do not transfer.
When you transfer project standards between two worksharing enabled projects the following Worksharing Display Settings information will carry over:
- Checkout Status > Color
- Owners > Username
- Owners > Color
- Model Updates > Color
- Worksets > Color [If both projects contain the same named workset]
You may be wondering what happens if you use transfer project standards from a worksharing project into a non-worksharing project? Everything above will transfer, except for the Worksets > Color, since the worksets are not enabled yet. When you enable worksets in the project you should see the matching settings for #1-4 above.
Could be useful if you wish to predefine a username color even before worksets are enabled...
